3rd December 2013 Minutes

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 3rd December 2013

Attendance: 40 members were present.

Apologies: Graham Kane, Leo Dolan Noel Finley, Hamilton Houston, Mervyn Patterson, Billy Platt and Robin Semple (7)

Club Vice President Gordon Ward took the chair, explaining that our President had given his apologies as he had a hospital appointment. The Vice President then welcomed club members to the meeting and introduced a 'new' member, Peter FitzGerald, presenting him with his badges and club documents. The Vice President then introduced our speaker for the morning Mr. Ian Wilson who gave an interesting talk on his 'Experiences as a Museum Curator'. A brief summary of this talk is available in the Speakers Record Book, and on the club web site, for members' interest. A vote of thanks was proposed by John Graham and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Minutes: The minutes of the meeting on 19th November 2013 taken as read (due to the extra time of the talk).

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda

Correspondence: Dr Keith Munro, our speaker on the 19th November had written to all club members '…to thank you most sincerely for the kind donation of £285.00p'.

Social: The Vice President wanted to thank Jim Gordon on behalf of the whole club for the organising such a successful 25th Anniversary Lunch. The members showed their appreciation in the normal manner. Jim Gordon said that in general he was pleased with the quality of the meal and that we had 78 members and guests attending. Jim reminded members that there would be no Christmas Lunch on 10th December, but that there would be complimentary teas/coffees and mince pies/shortbread for the members attending that week.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten said that Arnold Carson had taken a fall and was currently in Hospital. But other members appeared to be quite healthy.

Treasurer: Nigel Semple said the accounts were in order, but (joking) he was worried about the cost of the mince pies!

A O B: None

Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 10th December, where the guest speaker would be Mrs. Gwyneth McQuiston, the manager of the Diamond Centre in Coleraine.

The Vice President thanked members for their attendance and said that although it wasn't certain what may be wrong with Graham, he and all the members would be hoping it will be eminently 'fixable'.

Meeting closed at 12.10pm
