Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance: 37 members were in attendance.

Apologies: Noel Finlay, Norman Gallagher, Graham Kane, John Ludlow, Norman Maxwell, John McKegney, Reggie Patterson, Billy Platt, Ernest Preece John Tan and Derick Woods. (11)

The President, Mike Turner, welcomed members to the meeting. He then reported that this mornings speaker Susan Lyons from the Oasis Trust was, for personal reasons, unable to attend the meeting. Once again Ken Parkes has stepped into the breach at very short notice and he will present a short silent film and recitation after the completion of the Weekly Business.

Weekly Business:
Minutes: The minutes of 4th April 2017 were read, approved by the members, and signed

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: A letter was received from the Altzheimer’s Society publicising Training Courses for Informal Caregivers to be held in the Millburn Community Centre on Fri. 28th . April 2017,10am to 12noon. Copies are available at the signing-in table.

Reports:
Social: Des Johnston reminded members that there will not be a lunch in April. The next lunch will be held on Tuesday 9th May and this will be preceded by the Club Quiz. Menus for this lunch will be available on 25th April. and menu choices should be returned as soon as possible.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Leslie Brennan is still in Dalriada Hospital. It was good to welcome Jim Nesbitt back to the Probus meeting.

Treasurer: Nothing to report.

A.O.B. The President extended the Club’s belated congratulations to Jim and Susan Donaghy who celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on 2nd March.

KEN PARKES PRESENTS:
A monologue ------ “Albert’s Christmas Present”

followed by

A Silent Movie ---- Charlie Chaplin in “THE TRAMP”.

A 1915 silent movie with Chaplin acting the enduring comic brilliance of the iconic underdog. While often causing mayhem he was ultimately a caring character who would finally be rejected by a cruel world.

Ken’s presentation was thoroughly enjoyed by the members who showed their enthusiastic appreciation.

Next meeting: Will be held on Tuesday 25th April 2017 when the speaker will be Keith Brown on the subject of “The National Gardens Association”.

The President thanked members for attending. Wishing all a Happy Easter he looked forward to seeing them at the next meeting.
