Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 12th November 2013
Attendance: 39 members were present.
Apologies: Joe Alcorn, Jim Archer, Sam Boyd, Leo Dolan, Eric Fulton, Ronnie Gray, Des Johnson, Bob McIvor, Mervyn Patterson, Ahmed Shariff, Ross Torrens, and Joe Wishart (12)
Club President Graham Kane welcomed club members to the meeting and then introduced our speaker for the morning Mr. Michael Conway, who gave a fascinating and unique illustrated talk about the wildlife that members could see in he local area, and specifically at the Roe Vally park. A brief summary of this talk is available in the Speakers Record Book, and on the club web site, for members interest. A vote of thanks was proposed by Dermot Jennings and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.
Minutes: The minutes of the meeting on 5th November 2013 were read, agreed and signed.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda
Correspondence: None.
Rally 2014: Club President Graham Kane reported that he and Jim Gordon had talked to the Ballymoney Riada Probus Club about hosting the Rally in 2014. The Ballymoney club were interested offered help for the event in principle. Graham also said the he and Jim would also be attending the Limavady meeting on the 13th and requesting their possible help for the Rally.
Social: Jim Gordon updated member on the special 25th Anniversary buffet meal at the Lodge. Jim said that so far there were now about 75 members, partners and 10/12 guests signed up to attend, but he hoped for a few more. Jim said that in order to let the event run smoothly he would like members to pre-pay for the meal. Named envelopes would be available at the 'Badge Box', the cost being £20 per person – cash would be preferred.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten said the there was nothing to report on this week – hopefully all was well with members.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple said the accounts were in order and there was nothing to report.
A O B: 1. New Member - Nigel Semple proposed Norman Gallagher for membership. This was seconded by John Ludlow and agreed by all members.
2. Ties - The order had to been sent off and it was hoped that the ties would arrive for the next meeting.
3. Web site – Norman Maxwell said that the club web site was improving and had made some suggestions. The Secretary thanked Norman for his ideas and also for providing some new archive information and photos, which would be added to the site as soon as possible. Members were asked if they to could visit www.coleraineprobus.org.uk and make their comments too.
Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 19th November, where the guest speaker would be Mr. Keith Munro from the Foyle Hospice. The President said that this would also be the charity for the 'retiring collection' for our 2013 Probus Year.
