Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 5th March 2013
Attendance: 33 members were present.
Apologies: Jim Archer, Leslie Brennan, Alec Elliott, Ronnie Gray, Gareth Parry, Aubrey McElhinny, Des Moore, Ian Murray, Reggie Patterson, Robin Semple and Tony Smyth (11)
Club President Graham Kane welcomed members to the meeting and then introduced our speaker for the morning, Dr. Scott White. Scott is a local Chiropractor, and gave an interesting talk about the uses of his profession. A summary of this talk is available on the ‘Probus Speakers' page for readers interest. A vote of thanks was proposed by Jim Foote and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.
Minutes: The Secretary thanked Bob McIvor for standing in for him on the 19thFeb and John Dobson for providing a summary of the club talk. The minutes of the meeting on 19th February 2013 were then read, agreed and signed.
Matters arising: Club Outing: Mervyn Patterson asked if anyone had though of any other possible trips out for the members, after the proposed 'Titanic Centre' visit wasn't agreed. Gray Point Fort, Crumlin Road Jail, Carrickfurgus Castle and the Police Memorial were raised as possible venues. Other ideas from members would be welcomed, and be considered at a future club committee meeting.
Correspondence: 2013 All Ireland Rally, The secretary had details to discuss in AOB
Social: Jim Gordon reported on the club lunch held 26th Feb. 37 members and Guests attended, and once again the quality of the meal was good. However, the Golf Club had approached Jim following the meal to say that they wished to raise the price of the lunch to £14.50 per head. Following a discussion with Jim, they have agreed to a total cost of £11.00p (£10.50 meal, 50p tip) for the foreseeable future. The President congratulated Jim on his successful negotiation skills.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Ernest Preece had some further treatment to undertake, but was expected to return home by the end of the week.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple said that he was still available for anyone wishing to pay their subscription for membership.
A O B: 1: The Secretary had now received details of the Athlone Rally. May 15th for Mayoral Reception and evening entertainment, 16th for Rally itself (9.30am to 2.30pm), and a special Golf Tournament on 17th as an optional extra. Cost £42 per delegate and £22 per 'accompanying guest'.
Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 12th March, with Mr. Wilson Burgess, who is a Broadcaster, a Writer and a Poet. That's at 10.30 for 11.00 am start.
The President thanked members for attending today and looked forward to seeing everyone next week.
