Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 18 March 2014.

Attendance: 41 members were present.

Apologies: Jim Archer, Sam Barr, Don Bell, Jim Foote, Norman Gallagher, Des Johnston, Des Moore, Ian Murray, Reggie Patterson, Ahmed Sharieff and Mike Turner (11)

Club President, Gordon Ward, welcomed members to the meeting and then introduced our speaker for the morning, Mr John Moore who outlined the history if the Causeway Tram from its inception to its final demise in 1951. A brief summary of this talk is available in the Speakers’ Record Book, and also on the club web site. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mervyn Patterson and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Minutes: The minutes of the 11 March 2014 were read, agreed and signed.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: A letter of thanks was received from Cancer Research UK for the donation of £332.00 in support of the fundraising efforts of Mr Barry Torrens.

Social: Jim Gordon distributed the menus for the club lunch to be held on Tuesday 25 March and requested that they be returned today.

Welfare:
• Cecil Spotten reported that Sam Barr was being attended at home. He was far from well following his recent heart attack.
• Alex Elliott, having spent 5 weeks in hospital, was now back home and being cared for by his daughter Ruth.
• Mike Turner is back home from Musgrave Park Hospital and is doing well. He hopes to be out again in about 3 weeks.
• The president said it was good to see Graham Kane at the meeting looking fit and well.

Rally Task Forms: Jim Gordon confirmed that he was awaiting the return of the Rally Task Forms which were distributed on 11 March. Members not at that meeting will receive these forms today. Forms should be returned as soon as possible.

Next Speaker’s Meeting will be held on Tuesday 1 April 2014 March when Mr Stephen Peden will give a talk on “The Challenge of the Fire Service”.

The President thanked everyone for attending and hoped to see all the members at our next meeting.
