Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club

Attendance: 35 members.

The Club President, John Graham, welcomed members to the meeting with a special welcome to the lady guests. He then introduced our speaker for the morning Maura McIvor, the topic of her talk being “Action MS”.

Maura is a Professional Care Advisor who has worked for Action MS for 10 years and runs their Social Care Programme.

Maura thanked Probus members and in particular Mr Jim Hillis, for the invitation to give an insight into “Action MS”. MS is a neurological condition which can affect the nervous system, brain and spinal cord. Action MS, with headquarters at Knockbracken in Belfast, will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2016. Maura gave a detailed insight into the varied support given to both sufferers of MS and to their families, with a special mention of the Des Keenan Holiday Caravan in Portstewart.

The talk concluded with a searching question and answer session.

A vote of thanks proposed by Jim Hillis was passed to Maura McIvor by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

REPORTS:
Social: Joe Alcorn reported that about 30 members and guests attended the excellent Probus Club Lunch on Tuesday 29 September. It is hoped that menus for the next Club Lunch on 27 October will be available at the meeting on 13 October.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Ivan Gough has a kidney infection and that John Dobson was back in hospital for a short time.

Treasurer: Nothing to report.

A O B: Leo Dolan gave notice that at the next meeting Danny Kennedy will be proposed for Membership of Coleraine Probus.

Next Speakers Meeting: Will be held on Tuesday 13 October 2015 and the speaker will be Emma Thorpe on the subject of “The History of Motion Pictures”.

The President thanked the members for attending and looked forward to seeing them at the next speaker’s meeting on 13 October.
