Talk John McFarland, assisted by Norman Beverland, on the Shackleton Aviation Museum

Club President Graham Kane welcomed club members to the meeting and then introduced our speaker for the morning, John McFarland, who was assisted by Norman Beverland. Both our speakers were from the local Shackleton and Aviation Museum, and gave a talk on the history of the former RAF Base at Ballykelly.

Attached to these notes are a scanned email prepared by John and Norman, which covers most of the talk and PowerPoint presentation they gave to the club. Please ‘Click here’ to view the notes.

At the end of the talk there was only time for a very brief but interesting question and answer session, in which we found out (among other things) that 'Danna' landed at Ballykelly after she won the Eurovision contest.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Ian Scott who said that not only was this a fascinating and well researched talk, but it also brought back many memories of when he lived in Limavady and of the servicemen stationed there. The thanks were duly passed on by the President.
